Box Score 2 SALEM, VA- The Chowan University softball team opened play at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament with a pair of losses on Friday evening. The Hawks fell to Tiffin University 6-5 in extra innings and dropped a 5-2 decision against Glenville State University. Chowan moves to 11-9 on the season after Friday's losses.
In the first game of the evening, the Hawks and Dragons both scored one run in their first at-bat of the contest. An RBI triple by
Katrina Simmons pushed Chowan ahead 2-1 in the second and
Haley Cox's RBI single in third gave the Hawks a 3-1 edge. Tiffin used an RBI double by Jena King in their half of the third to make the score 3-2.
After three scoreless innings, Allyson Rock's RBI double led to an additional run for the Dragons in the seventh, sending the contest into extra innings. Katelyn Brummett's two-run blast pushed the Hawks ahead 5-3 in the eighth but Tiffin plated three runs in their final at-bat to send the Dragon ahead 6-5, securing the win.
Kayla Robins took the loss on the mound in game one for Chowan while Kimmy Reynolds picked up the win for Tiffin.
In the second game of the evening, Glenville State scored three runs in the top of the third to get an early 3-0 jump over the Hawks.
Tina White's ground out to second in the bottom of the frame put the Hawks on the board but Glenville State answered with two runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.
Tori Cragan's RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the frame gave the Hawks an additional run, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Audrey Hubbard took the loss on the mound against Glenville State while Sam Weaver was credited with the win.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday to take on Bloomsburg University and Wheeling Jesuit University. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm and 2:00pm, respectively.
