Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Fighting Scots of Edinboro University 20-6 on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks slide to 0-7 on the season with the setback while the Fighting Scots improve to 3-0 on the year with the victory.
Emily Peters and Anna Purdy each scored four goals in the win for the Fighting Scots. Erin Gordon and Rebecca Martin each found the back of the net twice with Kasey Thur, Rachel Olson, Britney Myers, Madison Temple, Molly Campion, Cydney Hrycko, Stephanie Chido and Kayla Thomas each scored for Edinboro in the win.
Mackenzie Reid recorded three goals for the Hawks in the setback.
Adriea Herndon scored twice for the Chowan Blue and White while
Tyra Simons added a score.
Haley Haggard made nine saves in goal for the Hawks.
Edinboro wasted no time grabbing the control and momentum in the contest. The Fighting Scots raced to a quick 7-0 lead within the first ten minutes of play before Herndon found the back of the net on a free position shot. Reid made the score 7-2 after taking advantage of her own free position shot with 13:03 on the clock.
Martin's goal two minutes later pushed Edinboro ahead 8-2. Reid responded with an unassisted goal at with 9:42 remaining before halftime but four unanswered goals by the Fighting Scots left the Hawks trailing 12-4 with 4:02 on the clock. Simons ended the scoring drought with a score at the 1:42 mark but Peters' goal for Edinboro handed the Hawks a 13-4 deficit heading into the halftime break.
The Fighting Scots opened the second period with six goals by six different players to pull away 19-4. With 12:05 on the clock, Herndon scored using an assist from
Jennifer Caird. Less than three minutes later Reid found the back of the net for the Hawks but Temple's free position shot secured the 20-6 win for the Fighting Scots.
Chowan hits the road for the next six consecutive matches before hosting Coker College in their season finale on April 13
th. First draw is slated for 4:00pm.
