Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University softball team dropped a pair of games to the visiting Golden Rams of West Chester University on Sunday afternoon.  The Hawks fall to 4-7 on the year with the setbacks while the Golden Rams improve to 10-0 on the season with the wins.  Chowan fell to West Chester 10-4 in the opening game and 2-1 in the nightcap. Sunday's games marked the Hawks' Strike Out Cancer Day.

In the opening contest, the Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take a quick lead with RBI singles from Danielle Baccus and Katlyn Brummett.  The Golden Rams knotted the score in the top of the third using a Hawk miscue and an RBI single up the middle by Laura Altenburger.

Four hits and three Chowan errors led to four runs for the Golden Rams in the fourth, pushing West Chester ahead 6-2.  The Hawks responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring one run off of Brummett's single up the middle.

In the top of the seven, Sarah Walasavage's bunt single, RBI singles by Alyssa Kerion and Madison Kelly, along with a fielder's choice provided the Golden Rams with four additional runs and a 10-3 advantage.  Chowan mustered one run in the bottom of the frame but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Brummett paced the Hawks with two hits and one RBI with Baccus adding one hit and two RBI in the setback.  Herion and Kelly each tallied three hits apiece with Herion and Kat Hammer each recording two RBI.

In the nightcap, Herion opened the contest with a homerun to centerfield to give the Golden Rams a quick 1-0 edge.  From there, Kayla Robins went to work, shutting down West Chester for four consecutive innings.  Katrina Simmons' RBI single in the bottom of the third knotted the score 1-1.  In the top of the sixth, a Hawk error led to a run for West Chester, giving the Golden Rams all they would need to secure the 2-1 win.
