Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's lacrosse team suffered a 20-3 setback against the visiting Catawba College Indians on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks fall to 0-3 on the season while the Indians improve to 2-0 with the victory.
Megan Shortt led all players in the contest with four goals in the victory. Kirstyn Kruse added three goals in the win with Crista Clayton, Erin Green, Meredith Jones, Nicolette Salay all notched two goals apiece for Catawba. Syndey Bailey, Alyssa Corace, Becky Frosy, Imani Grays and Hannah Scott all added a score to aid the effort. Jones and Shortt both tallied four assists.
Mackenzie Reid led the effort for the Hawks with two goals.
Adriea Herndon also scored in the loss.
Haley Haggard made nine saves in goal for the Hawks. Madison Anselmo made six saves in goal for the Indians.
Reid opened the contest with a score for Chowan in the first two minutes of play. The Indians answered with seven goals to pull away 7-1 with 17:20 on the clock. Herndon stopped the momentum after finding the back of the net on a free position attempt to make the score 7-2, but three additional goals for Catawba left the Hawks heading into halftime looking to bounce back from a 10-2 deficit.
After a goal by Clayton for Catawba just 15 seconds into the half, Reid took advantage of a free position shot to make the score 11-3 with 28:32 left to play. The Indians responded with a 9-0 run to close out the contest with the 20-3 victory.
The Hawks hit the road on March 1
st to take on Alderson-Broaddus before returning home to host UVA-Wise and Newberry on Match 6
th and March 7
th, respectively.
