Box Score SPARTANBURG, SC- The Chowan University women's lacrosse team fell to Converse College 12-8 on Monday afternoon. The Hawks drop to 0-2 on the season after Monday's setback while the Valkyries improve to 2-2 on the year with the win.
Mackenzie Reid scored five goals and was credited with three assists in the setback.
Adriea Herndon added two goals and three assists while
Tyra Simons added one goal for the Hawks in the setback.
Brittni Jones paced the Valkyries with four goals with Elizabeth Gabriele scoring three times in the victory. Aubrie Lauderdale and Chelsea Worrell each found the back of the net twice for Converse with Maria Knott adding a score in the win.
Haley Haggard made eight saves in goal for the Chowan Blue and White with Jessi Walters recording six saves for the Valkyries.
Reid put the Hawks on the board less than two minutes into the game when she found the back of the net using an assist by Herndon. The Valkyries answered with two goals in the next two minutes of play before Herndon's score knotted the contest 2-2 at the 22:13 mark. With the scored tied 3-3, Converse rattled off five goals by four different players to pull away 8-3 with 2:15 on the clock before halftime.
Herndon and Reid both found the back of the net once more before the end of the first half to cut the deficit to 8-5 heading into halftime.
Reid came out firing after the halftime break, scoring with the first two minutes to pull the Hawks back within striking distance. Converse and Chowan exchanged goals down the final stretch of the second half before the Valkyries secured the 12-8 win with a score by Gabriele.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday as they play host to Catawba College. First draw is slated for 3:00pm.
