Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILSON, NC- The Chowan University softball team swept the Barton College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon to earn their first victories of the season. The Hawks topped the Bulldogs 12-5 in the opening game and 6-3 in the nightcap to improve to 2-4 on the year. The Bulldogs move to 1-3 on the short season with the setbacks.

After two scoreless innings of play in the opening game, an RBI double by Tori Cragan in the top of the third gave Chowan an early 1-0 jump. The Hawks plated three runs in the fourth behind Tina White's three-run homerun to take a 4-0 lead. Barton answered back in their half of the frame, scoring a run off of Hannah Jones' single.

An RBI single by Katrina Simmons and a sacrifice fly by White in the fifth handed the Hawks a 6-1 advantage. The Bulldogs answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to leave Chowan clinging to a 6-5 advantage. Chowan refused to back down, holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the remainder of the contest while scoring two runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to earn the 12-5 victory.

Kayla Robbins earned the victory on the mound for Chowan in game one.

Barton took an early lead in the second game of the day after Megan Kelly hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first to give the Bulldogs an early advantage. Chowan answered with three runs in the third before Barton responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to knot the score 3-3. The Hawks capitalized on a three-run sixth inning to secure the 6-3 victory.

Audrey Hubbard picked up the win on the mound for Chowan in the nightcap. She scattered nine hits while striking out three in the victory.
