Box Score 2 TIGERVILLE, SC- The Chowan University softball team dropped a pair of games to North Greenville University on Friday afternoon. The Hawks start their season with a 0-2 record while the Crusaders improve to 6-2 on the year with the victories.
In the opening game, Chowan struck first when
Kris Neal's RBI single gave the Hawks a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first. North Greenville responded in the fifth when Greer Killman and Kate Lee hit RBI singles to push the Crusaders ahead 2-1.
The Hawks promptly answered back in the top of the sixth when
Katrina Simmons belted a three-run double to center to give Chowan a 4-2 edge. In the bottom of the frame, North Greenville plated seven runs off of four hits and two Hawk errors to take a commanding 9-4 lead. Chowan was unable to answer back in the bottom of the frame, resulting in the 9-4 setback.
Kayla Robins threw 5.1 innings in the loss, surrendering seven runs off of six hits while striking out two.
Audrey Hubbard entered the contest in-relief and gave up two runs off of two hits.
Haley Cox collected three hits in the setback while
Katlyn Brummett added two hits for the Hawks.
Carson O'Donald picked up the win on the mound. She surrendered three runs off of five hits while striking out two batters for North Greenville.
In game two, the Crusaders scored two runs in the first, one in the second, four in the third and an additional run in the fourth to secure the 8-0 victory. Chowan was held to two hits in the second game.
Tori Cragan and Simmons were the lone Hawks to record base hit knocks in the setback.
Kayla McCarson earned the win for North Greenville. She tossed five scoreless innings in the victory while striking out four batters.
Delanie Winslow took the loss on the mound. Hubbard entered the contest in-relief. She gave up six runs off of nine hits.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday as Chowan travels to take on Erskine College. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12:00pm. Sunday's games against Queens (Charlotte) have been postponed due to inclement weather and field conditions.
