Box Score LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University women's basketball team earned their seventh consecutive win on Wednesday evening in a 77-61 victory over Lincoln University (PA). The Hawks improve to 14-5 overall and 8-1 in league play with the CIAA Northern Division victory while the Lady Lions drop to 10-8 overall and 5-5 against CIAA competition.
Alisha Mobley led all players in the contest with 21 points and 10 rebounds (seven offensive, three defensive) in the victory.
Dhyamond Crenshaw added 16 points for the Chowan Blue and White while
Danielle Weldon recorded a double-double performance with 12 points and 11 rebounds (four offensive, seven defensive).
Mercedes Tapia chipped in 11 points for the Hawks with
Jada Lee adding nine points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
Dejah Taylor paced the Lady Lions with 13 points and 10 rebounds (four offensive, six defensive) in the setback. Teira Pendleton followed with 12 points while Amani Clark and LenNee Kimbell netted 10 points apiece for Lincoln.
The Hawks and Lady Lions battled through four ties in the first quarter with neither team mustering a lead of more than three points. With 1:32 on the clock and the score tied 11-11, Weldon drained a free throw and hit a layup to send the Hawks into the second quarter with a 14-11 advantage.
Chowan used the momentum to extend their lead to as many as 14 points (25-11) in the second quarter using Weldon's' layup with 6:58 remaining before halftime. Lincoln (PA) cut the deficit to eight points (34-26) after a layup by Miana Gaines with 1:36 left to play, but a jumper by
Courtni Williams, followed by a layup and free throw by Tapia propelled the Hawks to a comfortable 39-26 advantage at the halftime break.
The Lady Lions capitalized on a 9-2 run at the start of the third quarter to make the score 41-35 by the midway point. Chowan responded with a layup by Mobley and jumper by Lee to pull away 45-35 before heading into the final quarter with a 52-40 advantage.
The Hawks ran away with the momentum in the fourth quarter and led by 11 or more points in the final ten minutes of play before securing the 77-61 win behind Mobley's three-pointer.
Chowan returns to the Helms Center on January 30
th to take on Virginia Union University. Tip-off for the CIAA Northern Division contest is slated for 1:00pm.
