Hawks Finish Runner-Up at CIAA Golf Championship

Billy Britton and Jordan Francis earned All-CIAA and CIAA All-Tournament honors.
CHARLOTTE, NC- The Chowan University men's golf team finished runner-up at the CIAA Championship on Friday afternoon at Larkhaven Golf Course.  The Hawks' finished in second place out of eight competing teams with a two-day team score of 635, earning Chowan their third runner-up finish in as many years.  Billy Britton and Jordan Francisboth earned All-CIAA and CIAA All-Tournament honors as a result of their performances.

Livingstone College won the CIAA Championship after turning in a two-day team score of 625.  As a team, the Blue Bears shaved 15 strokes off of their first round score) to card a 305 in the second round.  The Hawks posted a team score of 309 on Friday after turning in a 326 in the opening round.  Elizabeth City State University finished in third place (650) followed by Fayetteville State University and Johnson C. Smith University who finished tied for fourth place with team scores of 666.  Virginia Union University finished in sixth place (766) with Virginia State University (846) and Saint Augustine's University (1,024) finishing in seventh and eighth place, respectively. 

Britton and Francis matched their first day performances as both shot a 78 in the final round.  Their two-day score of 156 left them tied for fourth place individually along with Jared Chinn of Fayetteville State University and Stephen Washington of Livingstone College.  After carding an 81 on Thursday, Rich Edwards turned in a score of 77 on Friday, good for ninth place in the 41 golfer field. 

Sean Wilson showed resilience for the Chowan Blue and White in the second round.  He shaved 13 strokes off of his first round score (89) to card a 76 for the Hawks on Friday.  Wilson's two-day score of 165 put him tied for fourteenth place with Curtis Vinson of Elizabeth City State University. 

Ryan Baker also battled back for the Hawks on the final day of play.  He carded an 80 on Friday after shooting an 89 in the first round.  Individually, Baker finished tied for eighteenth place overall with Joshua Steger of Johnson C. Smith University.

 Brandon Jobe of Fayetteville State University and William White of Elizabeth City State University both compiled two-day scores of 150, with White leading the pack with a 68 in the final round of play.  White earned individual medalist honors after topping Jobe in sudden death playoff play. 

The Hawks made program history in 2015 after claiming the CIAA Northern Division and CIAA Southern Division Tournament titles.
