Box Score 2 LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University softball team picked up two CIAA Northern Division wins on Saturday afternoon against The Lincoln University. The Hawks earned a commanding 28-0 victory in the opening contest before rolling to a 21-0 win in the nightcap.
Chowan improves to 20-12 overall and 13-1 in CIAA play with the wins while The Lincoln University falls to 0-22 on the year and 0-12 in the league after the setback. The Hawks post a 5-1 record in divisional play after Saturday's wins and hold on to first place in the CIAA Northern Division standings.
In game one, Chowan took charge right from the start, scoring 19 runs in the first inning of play. The Hawks took advantage of eleven walks and eleven hits in the first inning alone to grab the early advantage.
Alora Lincoln held the Lady Lions to three hits in the opening contest while collecting five strikeouts in five innings of work. Chowan pounded out 20 hits over the course of the contest before securing the 28-0 win.
The Hawks continued the momentum in the second game with a ten-run first inning against the Lady Lions. Chowan tallied 16 hits in the contest highlighted by homeruns by
Danielle Baccus and
Brook Bowen.
Courtney Groce earned the victory on the mound for the Hawks. She struck out nine batters in five innings of work and surrendered a mere two hits.
