Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University softball team split a pair of CIAA Northern Division games on Saturday afternoon against Virginia State University. The Hawks dropped game one 5-3 before recovering to earn a 10-2 win in the nightcap. Chowan moves to 16-12 on the season and 9-1 in league play after the games while Virginia State moves to 7-15 on the year and 5-7 in league play.

In game one, the Hawks struck first in the bottom of the third when
Tina White's triple and Bridges' single to left gave Chowan an early 2-0 advantage. The Lady Trojans scored one run in the fifth and plated four runs in the sixth using RBI singles by Jamilia Smith and Logan Tollison and Cameryn Smith's two-run single up the middle to pull away 5-2. The Hawks mustered one run in the seventh after Bridges' single up the middle but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Lincoln took the loss on the mound. She surrendered five earned runs off of 10 hits in 5.2 innings of work.
Courtney Groce threw 1.1 inning in-relief. Bridges and
Rachel Clark accounted for four of the Hawks' five hits in the contest.
Lindsey Wilkins picked up the win on the mound for Virginia State. She held Chowan to three hits over four innings of work while giving up two earned runs. McKenzie Love earned the save in-relief for the Lady Trojans. Jamilia Smith and Tollison each had three hits in the win while Cameryn Smith had three RBIs.
In the second game of the afternoon, Diamond's RBI single in the first gave the Hawks an early advantage. A fielder's choice in the bottom of the second allowed
Jordan Burland-Card to score in the bottom of second, extending Chowan's advantage to 2-0. White's double up the middle and Bridges' infield single led to two more runs for the Hawks in the fourth.
The Lady Trojans cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth with Verlisha Brandon's sacrifice fly and Krysten Davis' double to left. Chowan scored six runs off of five runs, highlighted by White's two-run homerun, and three Lady Trojan errors to solidify the 10-2 win.
Tori Cragan and White each had three hits in the win with Diamond and White knocking in three RBIs apiece. Six different Lady Trojans accounted for six hits in the setback.
Kayla Robins earned the win on the mound with Lincoln tallying the save. Robins held the Lady Trojans scoreless over the course of three innings of work.
Wilkins took the loss for Virginia State on the mound in game two.
The Hawks travel to Richmond, Virginia on Sunday to take on Virginia Union University in a critical CIAA Northern Division match-up. First-pitch is slated for 12:00pm.
