Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Chowan University lacrosse team came up short in a 12-7 decision against Methodist University on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks fall to 3-8 on the season with the setback while the Monarch's improve to 10-5 on the year.
Mackenzie Reid paced the Hawks with four goals in the contest while
Kamile Smith found the back of the net twice for Chowan.
Charisse Wilcox added a score for the Blue and White in the setback while
Rachael Cramer made seven saves in goal.
Adriea Herndon and Smith each collected four ground balls in the contest.
Hope Motahari and Emily Brennen each had four goals in the win for Methodist. Sareena Coleman added two scores while Zhane' Ruffin and Emily Creasy each scored one goal apiece for the Monarchs in the win.
Smith gave the Hawks the lead just three minutes into the game before Reid's goal at the 24:17 mark pushed Chowan ahead 2-0. Coleman answered with a goal for the Monarch's before scores by Smith and Reid gave Chowan a 4-1 advantage with 17:56 remaining in the first period. Breenen and Motahari gave the Monarch's some momentum as each scored a goal over the next three minutes of play, pulling Methodist within striking distance (4-3).
With the score tied 5-5, Reid found the back of the net for the Hawks with 4:02 on the clock to give Chowan a narrow 6-5 lead heading into halftime.
A Methodist foul at the start of the first half led to free position goal for at the start of the second period. Trailing 7-5, the Monarch's dug deep to score seven unanswered goals in the remainder of the contest to earn the 12-7 victory.
Chowan closes out the 2015 season on April 15
th. The Hawks host Potomac State College of West Virginia University at 3:00pm.
