Box Score 3 CARY, NC- The Chowan University softball team opened CIAA crossover play with three wins at the CIAA Round-Up on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks defeated Johnson C. Smith 6-0 in their first game of the day, toppled Livingstone College 12-4 and edged Saint Augustine's 3-2 in the final contest of the day. Chowan improves to 8-7 overall with the win and starts off CIAA play with a 3-0 record.
Katlyn Brummett and
Tina White both homered in Chowan's first game of the day against Johnson C. Smith. The Golden Bulls were held to two hits in the setback, both of which were hit by Morgan Hasty.
Tori Cragan's double allowed
Tori Cragan to score in the top of the first inning while Brummett's three-run homerun in the fourth pushed the Hawks ahead 4-0. Chowan plated an additional run in the top of the fifth before White's solo homerun in the top of the seventh secured the 6-0 victory for the Hawks in game one.
Alora Lincoln pitched all seven innings in the shutout win for the Hawks. She held the Golden Bulls to just two hits while striking out six batters. Victoria Lopez took the loss for Johnson C. Smith. She scattered eight hits and surrendered four earned runs in the loss.
Chowan continued the momentum in game two with a 12-4 victory over the Lady Blue Bears.
Courtney Groce earned the win on the mound for the Chowan Blue and White while White and
Chandler Bridges notched three hits and two hits, respectively.
Audrey Hubbard hit a solo homerun while
Rachel Clark added two hits in the win for Chowan. Please note statistics were not available for the Hawks' game against Livingstone. Check back to

In the third and final game of the evening, the Hawks hung on despite a late rally by Saint Augustine's to secure a 3-2 victory over the Lady Falcons.
Jordan Burland-Card and Brooke Bowen each had two hits for the Hawks while Bridges,
Courtney Diamond and
Kris Neal all had one hit in the victory.
Brummett's sacrifice fly followed by Neal's solo homerun in the top of the second gave the Hawks an early 2-0 advantage. The Lady Falcons plated a run in the bottom of the frame before a fly ball by Bridges allowed Clark to score in the top of the seventh. The Lady Falcons used a sacrifice bunt to plate another run in the bottom of the frame.
Chowan held a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh with the tying run at third base and the go-ahead run at second but
Kayla Robins forced a ground out to second by Daja White to secure the win. Robins threw all seven innings in the win. She gave up two earned runs while striking out 11 batters. Hannah Stutts took the loss for Saint Augustine's.
Chowan will conclude play at the CIAA Round-Up on Sunday at Walnut Creek. Game times have been adjusted to accommodate for field conditions and travel. The Hawks will take on Fayetteville State University at 11:30am, Winston-Salem State University at 1:30pm and Shaw University at 3:30pm.
