Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University lacrosse team fell to 0-4 on the season on Tuesday afternoon with a 23-14 setback to Nyack College. The Warriors earned their first win of the year with the victory and improve to 1-2 on the season.
Charisse Wilcox paced the Hawks with five goals in the loss.
Mackenzie Reid and
Adriea Herndon each found the back of the net three times for the Chowan Blue and White while
Kamile Smith added two scores for the Hawks.
Lasha Anderson added a goal for the Hawks, her first of the season. Herndon collected a team-high six ground balls for Chowan while causing three turnovers. Daniela Anguilar collected five ground balls over the course of the completion.
Lauren Lebo led all players in the contest with nine goals in the victory for Nyack. Karis Walborn chipped in five goals while Victoria Silvers and Karly Walborn both found the back of the net three times. Nicole Pilkerton, Hee Jae Ko and Rebecca Wakeley each scored one goal apiece in the win. Karly Walborn scooped up seven ground balls and caused five turnovers.
After a scoreless eight minutes of play, Lebo scored for Nyack on back-to-back possessions to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. The Hawks answered back with goals by Smith and Reid to knot the score2-2 by the 17:51 mark in the first half. A 4-0 scoring run for Nyack pushed the Warriors ahead 6-4 but Chowan fought back with scores by Smith, Wilcox and Herndon to make the score 6-5 with 10:25 remaining before halftime. Another 4-0 run by Nyack resulted in a 10-5 deficit for Chowan before Wilcox added an additional score for the Blue and White just 11 seconds left in the first half.
Both teams exchanged goals at the start of the second half. With Nyack holding a 14-10 lead and 15:40 on the clock, five unanswered goals pushed the Warriors' advantage to 19-10 with just under ten minutes left in the game. Anderson took advantage of a free position shot for Chowan and Herdon and Wilcox found the back of the net to make the score 19-13 at the 3:57 mark. The Hawks were unable to stop a late surge by Nyack and suffered the 23-14 setback.
Chowan looks to recover on March 13
th when the Hawks host Wilmington (OH). First draw is scheduled for 2:00pm on Hawks Field.
