Box Score NEWBERRY, SC- The Chowan University softball team dropped a pair of games to Newberry College on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks fell to the Wolves 4-2 in the first game before dropping a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.
Chowan moves to 2-4 on the year with the loss while the Wolves improve to 3-1 on the young season.
In the first game, the Wolves got on the board in their first at-bat using Jerri Loffler's RBI single. The Hawks plated a run in the top of the fourth when
Jordan Burland-Card's fielder's choice followed by a Newberry error allowed
Danielle Baccus to score and tied the game 1-1.
The Hawks plated an additional run in the fifth using Baccus' fielder's choice, but Newberry answered back in the home half of the frame with Allison Van Atta's RBI single and Loffler's two-run double.
Chowan was unable to respond offensively and dropped the 4-2 decision in the opening contest.
Kayla Robins took the loss on the mound for Chowan.

Katlyn Brummett and
Tori Cragan each had two hits in the loss.
Madison Burnett picked up the win for Newberry while Ashlen Ayres paced the Wolves offensively with three doubles in the contest.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first three innings of the second game. In the bottom of the fourth, an error by Chowan and an RBI single by Lindsay Gore gave Newberry a 2-0 advantage.
Tina White hit a two-run blast in the top of the fifth to tie the score 2-2 but Loffler's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth gave the Wolves all they would need to secure the 3-2 victory.
Alora Lincoln tossed six innings in the loss for Chowan. She scattered seven hits while surrendering three runs (one earned) and striking out five batters. Hannah Blakley picked up the win on the mound for Newberry. White had two hits and two RBI in the loss while Bridges, Bowen and Hubbard each tallied hits for the Hawks in game two.
Chowan returns to action on February 14
th as the Hawks host St. Andrews University in their home opener. First pitch is slated for 1:00pm.
