Box Score DUE WEST, SC- The Chowan University softball team took on Erskine College on Saturday in a nonconference doubleheader match-up. The Hawks fell to the Flying Fleet 13-12 in the first game and held a 7-2 advantage in the nightcap before the contest was suspended due to darkness.
In the opening game, the Hawks struck in their first at-bat when

Chandler Bridges to score. A homerun by Lydia Trexler for Erskine tied the score 1-1 in the bottom of the second and a wild pitch and RBI single gave the Flying Fleet a 3-1 lead after three innings complete.
Erskine tacked on two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to pull away 8-1 heading into the top of the sixth. The Hawks dug deep to score six runs in the top of the sixth using Diamond's RBI single, two Erskine errors, a passed ball and
Kris Neal's two-run double, making the score 8-7.
The Flying Fleet plated one run in the home half of the sixth to take a 9-7 lead.
Katlyn Brummett's grand slam in the top of the seventh along with Bridges' bases-loaded walk pushed the Hawks ahead 12-9.
Erskine responded with a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the seventh and capitalized on additional scoring opportunities with Brittany Reynolds' two-run double and Sydney Smith's walk-off single to clinch the 13-12 victory.
Courtney Groce took the loss on the mound for the Hawks. She threw 1.2 innings and surrendered four runs off six hits.
Alora Lincoln threw 4.2 innings in the setback.
Karen Hawkins earned the win on the mound for Erskine.
Chowan held a narrow 3-2 advantage in the fifth inning of the second game. The Hawks extended their lead to 5-2 in the sixth and held a 7-2 lead over Erskine in the seventh before the game was suspended due to darkness.
