Box Score GATLINBURG, TN- The Chowan University lacrosse team suffered a 23-11 setback against Tusculum College on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks fall to 0-2 with the loss while the Pioneers improve to 3-1 with the victory.
Mackenzie Reid led the effort for the Hawks with four goals in the loss while
Kamile Smith notched three goals for the Chowan Blue and White.
Charisse Wilcox added two goals for the Hawks while
Cindy Escobar and
Adriea Herndon added one goal apiece in the setback.
Cheyenne Bray and Kelsey Crow each scored six goals in the win for Tusculum. Madison Malone notched four goals while Erin Sims chipped in three goals. Calyn Kelly found the back of the net twice for the Pioneers while Shelby Moon and Savannah Elliott both added a score for Tusculum.
Kelly scored within the first minute of play allowing Tusculum to take an early lead. After three unanswered goals by Tusculum, Smith found the back of the net for Chowan to put the Hawks on the board at the 19:50 mark in the first half. After a 4-0 run by the Pioneers resulted in a 7-1 lead for Tusculum, a goal by Reid at the 7:43 mark made the score 7-2.
Wilcox and Reid added scores to cut the deficit to 7-4, but a 3-0 run by the Pioneers left the Hawks trailing 10-4 by the 28:46 mark in the second half.
Herndon responded with a goal for the Hawks at the 26:51 mark and Escobar found the back of the net with 23:44 left to play, making the score 10-6. The Hawks and Pioneers continued to battle, exchanging goals throughout the early minutes of the second half.
With Tusculum leading 13-9, eight unanswered goals by the Pioneers left the Hawks trailing 21-9 with 8:55 left in the contest. Chowan chipped away at the deficit using goals by Reid and Smith to make the score 21-11. Sims and Crow tacked on two goals for Tusculum to secure the 23-11 win for the Pioneers.
Chowan returns to action on March 5
th when they travel to Coker College. First draw is slated for 4:00pm.
