Lincoln Hangs on to Clip Hawks

Box Score LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University women's basketball fell short in a CIAA Northern Division battle against The Lincoln University on Wednesday evening.  The Hawks move to 13-12 overall and 9-6 in league play after the 46-45 loss while the Lady Lions improve to 19-6 overall and 11-4 in the league.  Chowan now holds a 5-4 mark in Northern Division play while Lincoln stands 7-2.

Dhyamond Crenshaw led the effort for the Hawks with eight points in the setback.  Naima Harrington and Jordan Payne added seven points with Payne grabbing a team-high seven rebounds (two offensive, five defensive).  The Hawks shot a dismal 28.6% from the floor over the course of the contest. 
 
Chowan's bench players accounted for 23 of the team's 45 points. 

Teira Pendleton had eight points in the win for Lincoln followed by Courtney Smith with seven points.  Dejah Taylor hauled in eight rebounds (four offensive, four defensive).  The Lions shot 28.4% from the floor on Wednesday. 

Miena Gaines opened the contest with a layup for Lincoln.  A bucket by Summer Curtis followed by a three-pointer by Chantel Roberts gave Chowan a 5-2 lead by the 18:22 mark.  A jumper by Crenshaw at the 11:59 mark gave the Hawks an 11-6 advantage, their largest the game.  Chowan surrendered the lead on two occasions but pulled away 23-20 with just under one minute remaining before halftime but Vivevca Nwagbaraocha's three-pointer  for Lincoln knotted the score 23-23 at halftime.

With the score tied 28-28 with 12:04 left in the game, a made free throw by Pendleton gave Lincoln a 29-28 advantage and their first lead of the half.  The Lady Lions led by as many as eight points (44-36) with 4:08 left in the game before a 7-0 run put the Hawks within striking distance with 1:18 on the clock. 

With 22 seconds left in the contest, Gostomski's jumper put the Hawks ahead 45-44.  Lucas' layup on Lincoln's next possession returned the lead to the Lady Lions.  Chowan was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities and a Lincoln turnover and suffered the 46-45 setback. 

The Hawks look to recover on February 21st when they take on Virginia Union University in the regular season finale.  Tip-off is slated for 1:00pm in the Helms Center.
