KISSIMMEE, FL- The Chowan University men's soccer team competed against Grace College on the second day of play at the NCCAA National Championship on Tuesday evening. After battling through two overtime periods in their second game in as many days, the Hawks settled for a 2-2 draw against the Lancers.
Chowan holds an 11-7-5 record on the season while Grace posts a 14-6-3 overall mark.
The Lancers scored first in the contest when Nakilee Weni found the back of the net in the 15
th minute of play. Damon Brinkley was credited with the assist. Trailing 1-0,
Ben Chapman put the Hawks on the board in the 28
th minute using an assist from
Tre Bonaparte. Three minutes later,
Terell Williamson scored and pushed the Hawks ahead 2-1. Five minutes before halftime, Dominic Harris knotted the score 2-2 when he scored off of Hector Torres' corner kick.
Both teams failed to score in the second period and throughout two overtime periods, resulting in the 2-2 draw.
The Hawks tallied 14 shots over the course of the competition with eight shots on goal. Chapman,
Christian Funes,
Jordan Radisavljevic and Williamson each notched two shots for Chowan. The Lancers totaled 18 shots in the game. Weni led the effort with five shots for Grace College.
Marco Lujan collected four saves in goal for the Hawks while Robbie Barnhill notched six saves for the Lancers.
The top four teams competing in the nine-team tournament advance to NCCAA Semi-Final action based on pool play results. With six teams scheduled to compete in three games on Wednesday, the Hawks await their fate.
