MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University men's soccer team battled to the final whistle to earn a 2-2 draw against Mount Olive on Wednesday evening. The Trojans opened the scoring, but the Hawks responded with goals from freshmen Clay Verdin and Cameron Letterlough.
With the result, Chowan moves to 2-3-2 on the season and 0-2-2 in conference play, while Mount Olive sits at 0-4-2 overall and 0-1-2 in league action.

Clay Verdin put the Hawks on the board in the 31st minute, leveling the score at 1-1 heading into halftime. Verdin finished the match with four total shots, including one on target. Late in the second half, Cameron Letterlough converted a penalty kick in the final minute to secure a 2-2 draw with the Trojans. Letterlough added three shots with one on frame to cap off the night.
Robbie Deighan was a consistent threat on the attack, registering a team-high seven shots, two of which were on target. Hlynur Fridrikson and Bradley Binns each contributed three shots with one on goal, while defender Matty Doyle added three attempts of his own. Harry Baker also applied pressure with two shots, both of which were on target.
In goal, Lucas Kibrya anchored the defense with a season-high nine saves playing the full 90 minutes.
