BOX SCORE MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University men's basketball team rolled to their fifth straight win on Monday evening with a 114-45 victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian University. The Hawks post a 5-1 record on the season after Monday's win while the Mustangs slide to 0-8 on the year.
Zach Camporese led the effort for Mid-Atlantic Christian with 19 points in the setback. Joseph Hill added 13 points while hauling in a team-high six rebounds (four offensive, two defensive) and Angus Spencer notched nine points in the loss.
The Hawks out-rebounded the Mustangs 55-17 over the course of the evening and caused 22 turnovers. Chowan had six players score double-digits in the victory led by
Kortez Smith with 18 points.
Joe Goodwin and
Tim Hewett added 15 points apiece in the win while
Marco Haskins and
Andrew Lopez each notched 11 points.
Warren Powers added 10 points with
Trevis Buckhanon and
Malik Crute each tallying nine points. Buckhanon and Powers both recorded double-double performances after grabbing 11 rebounds and 10 rebounds, respectively.
Chowan took control right from the started and jumped to an 11-0 lead within the first two minutes of play. Two made free throws by Hill cut the deficit to nine points, but a layup by Goodwin restored the double-digit advantage to the Hawks. Chowan shot 68% from the floor in the first half and led 66-21 heading into halftime.
The second half featured dominate play by the Hawks with nine different scorers contributing in the remainder of the contest. A basket by Buckhanon solidified the 114-45 victory for Chowan.
The Hawks travel to Catawba College on December 2
nd. Tip-off is slated for 6:00pm. The contest marks the first of five consecutive road games for the Chowan Blue and White.
