Box Score BELMONT, NC- The Chowan University men's soccer team battled through two overtime periods against Belmont Abbey College before settling for a 1-1 draw on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks post a 6-5-3 overall record after Tuesday's match. The Crusaders stand 1-9-4.
After a scoreless first period,
Terell Williamson took advantage of a breakaway opportunity and beat Belmont Abbey's keeper, Luke Whelan, one-on-one, finding the back of the net in the 62
nd minute of play for Chowan.
Francisco Ferrus was credited with the assist on the play. Four minutes later, Grant Retamar came through on the equalizer for the Crusaders after scoring an unassisted goal on a breakaway.
Both teams failed to score during the time remaining in regulation, as well as two overtime periods.
Chowan and Belmont Abbey both tallied 12 shots over the course of the competition. Williamson led the effort for the Hawks with five shots in the contest, three of which were on goal.
Ben Chapman and
Jordan Young each notched two shots for Chowan while
Barkan Koeprueluegil,
Jordan Radisavljevic, and
Myles Smith each recorded one shot for the Hawks.
Clay Dimick, Geinner Duque, Jordan Gardner and Liam Quinn each notched two shots for the Crusaders as James Delaney, Patrick Kibler, Retemar, and Mark Trompeter each added one shot apiece.
Marco Lujan made four saves in goal for Chowan over the course of the competition while Whelan tallied three saves for Belmont Abbey.
Chowan heads to Greenville, South Carolina on October 24
th to compete against Bob Jones University in their next outing. Match time is slated for 7:00pm. The Hawks return home on October 28
th for their final home game of the season to take on Barton College at 3:00pm. The contest will serve as Senior Day for the Hawks.
