Featured Hawks: Lucas Kibrya
Every Friday Chowan Athletics will spotlight select student-athletes and coaches in a series called Featured Hawks. This series highlights Hawks who exemplify excellence in the classroom, in competition, and within the Chowan community. Student-athletes were selected based on their academic achievement, athletic performance, leadership, character, and overall standing with the university. Coaches have the opportunity to share their coaching journey, discuss their programs, and provide insight about their vision for the future.
Fans will learn more about the individual experiences and stories of our student-athletes and coaches at Chowan as the spotlight series will continue by highlighting one individual throughout the school year each week.

Lucas Kibrya is a sophomore Exercise Science major from Birmingham, England, and a member of the Chowan University men's soccer program.
As a freshman, Kibrya immediately made an impact in goal for the Hawks, starting all 15 matches during the 2025 season. He logged 1,347:38 minutes in goal while helping Chowan post an 8-3-4 overall record. Kibrya allowed just 18 goals throughout the season while recording 57 saves, including six shutouts.
Following his first year at Chowan, Kibrya was recognized with the university's Rookie Class Award, honoring him as an outstanding member of the freshman class for men's soccer. With a full season of collegiate experience under his belt, Kibrya enters his sophomore campaign looking to continue building on his role in goal for the Hawks.
Why did you choose Chowan University?
I chose Chowan University because it gave me a new opportunity in a different country to play the sport I love and embrace new experiences that I would not have previously had in England. Choosing Chowan has also given me the opportunity to play soccer across multiple states at Division I and Division II facilities, which I'm really grateful for.
What do you enjoy most about competing in your sport at Chowan?
The thing I love most about playing soccer at Chowan University is when we play under the field lights because it gives the game a really professional feel, especially when the fans come out and support us. Additionally, because Chowan is such a small community, when we win, teachers and students often have really positive things to say about us, which makes us feel really good.
What has been your favorite memory as a Chowan student-athlete so far?
My favorite memory with Chowan University men's soccer is when we beat Emmanuel 2-1 in front of our home fans. They gave us the energy to get the win and progress to the next round.
