Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University men's basketball team earned a win over Saint Augustine's University on Monday evening. The Hawks improve to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in league play with the win while the Falcons slip to 6-6 on the season and 1-1 against CIAA competition.
Hank Edmonds led all players in the contest with 19 points for the Hawks.
Josh Mellette followed with 13 points and eight rebounds (five offensive, three defensive) while
Kyree Bethel chipped in 12 points.
Raheem Jolliffe led the effort for the Falcons with 11 points followed by Keith Crawford with nine points.
Anthony Gaskins opened the contest with a dunk to get an early lead for the Falcons. A basket by
Dauson Womack followed by a three-pointer by Bethel gave the Hawks a 5-2 advantage. Chowan extended their lead to 11 points (15-4) at the 13:59 mark with a layup by Edmonds and maintained control of the momentum through the remainder of the first half. The Hawks headed into halftime with a 37-24 lead.
Chowan held a firm grip on the lead through the second half, leading by double-digit points for the remainder of the contest. The Hawks closed out the game with the 76-47 victory.
Chowan returns to action on January 8
th when they head to Johnson C. Smith University. Tip-off for the CIAA crossover contest is slated for 7:30pm.
