Box Score PETERSBURG, VA- The Chowan University women's basketball team dropped their third straight game on Wednesday evening in a 71-56 decision against Virginia State University.  The Hawks move to 8-10 overall with the loss and slip to 4-4 in CIAA play.  The Lady Trojans improve to 12-5 on the year and 4-3 in the league. 

Chowan had four players score double-digit points in the setback.  Rachel Gostomski and Jordan Payne each scored 13 points while Naima Harrington and Alisha Mobley added 10 points apiece.  Mobley also grabbed nine rebounds (three offensive, six defensive).

Dashae Jones led all players in the contest with 23 points for Virginia State.  Wynterra Pittman followed with 13 points and nine rebounds (two offensive, seven defensive).

Jones opened the contest with a three-pointer for Virginia State. A 7-0 run by the Hawks gave Chowan the advantage, but the Lady Trojans battled back to tie the score 7-7 at the 13:16 mark.  Virginia State overcame two additional ties before grabbing the lead for good at the 16-15 mark with a layup by Pittman.  Chowan trailed by as many as nine points (29-20) before heading into halftime with a 29-21 deficit. 

Tiffanie Adair opened the second half with a layup for the Lady Trojans to give Virginia State a double-digit lead. The Hawks pulled within nine points on three different occasions in the second half and within eight points with 1:32 left in the contest using a score by Harrington (63-55), but were unable to recover from the deficit.

Chowan looks to bounce back from the 71-56 decision on Saturday when they host Bowie State University.  Tip-off for the CIAA Northern Division contest is slated for 2:00pm in the Helms Center.
