Box Score PETERSBURG, VA- The Chowan University softball team saw their season come to an end on Friday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to Virginia Union. The Hawks finished the year with a 17-31 overall record while the Lady Panthers advance to the CIAA Tournament semifinals after earning their first win over Chowan in softball program history.
The Lady Panthers scored two runs in their first at-bat using to take an early lead before plating an additional run in the second with Tayara Daniels' RBI single. Chowan responded in the bottom of the third with two runs of their own using
Courtney Baker's groundout and a Virginia Union error. Shakia Mackey's bunt single in the top of the seventh extended Virginia Union's lead to 4-2.
The Hawks were unable to respond offensively and suffered the season-ending setback.
Courtney Groce suffered the loss on the mound while Quincy Lewis picked up the win for Virginia Union.
Chandler Bridges and
Tina White each had two hits for the Hawks while
Tori Cragan added a base hit knock in the loss.
