Hawks Rout Columbia

Mackenzie Reid had 12 goals for the Hawks on Thursday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University women's lacrosse team snapped a six-match losing streak on Thursday evening with a 26-4win over Columbia College.  The Hawks improve to 3-7 with the win while the Fighting Koalas slip to 1-14 in their inaugural year. 
 
Mackenzie Reid led all players in the contest with 12 goals in the victory, a career best and also a school record.  Charisse Wilcox added six goals for the Blue and White while Adriea Herndon and Tyra Simmons added four and two respectively.  Sierra Burston and Evelyn McGrue each added a goal in the win.  With the victory, the Hawks also set a new record for single game goals (26). 
 
Chowan out-shot Columbia 40-20 on the evening and collected 27 groundballs in comparison to 11 by the Fighting Koalas.
 
Kendra Blackstock led Columbia with three goals while Devon Walter added one to aid the effort. 
 
 Wilcox put the Hawks on the board just 15 seconds into the contest.  Reid responded with four straight goals for Chowan while Wilcox added another at the 22:55 mark to give Chowan a 6-0 lead.  Reid added another score 20 seconds later to extend the Hawks' advantage to 7-0. 
 
Kendra Blackstock gave the Fighting Koalas two scores in response with Reid scoring in between, but Chowan closed out the half with an 8-0 run to take a 16-2 lead heading into halftime.
 
The Hawks tacked on four unanswered goals at the start of the second half to put the game out of reach.  Columbia added two goals, one apiece by Blackstock and Walter, but Chowan's offense proved unstoppable as the Hawks secured the 26-4 win. 
 
Chowan returns to action on April 5th when they travel to Banner Elk, NC to take on Lees McRae in a 2:00pm contest.
