Indians Handle Chowan

Charisse Wilcox had three goals on Saturday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-6 setback to the visiting Catawba College Indians on Saturday afternoon.  The Hawks slip to 2-7 with the loss while the Indians improve to 4-5. 
 
Catawba used goals by Meredith Jones and Alyssa Corace to take a 2-0 lead within the first three minutes of play.  Charisse Wilcox put the Hawks on the board at the 25:50 mark with an unassisted goal.  Ebony Mills answered with a free position shot less than one minute later but Mackenzie Reid gave the Hawks some momentum with a score of her own. 
 
The Indians went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-2 lead with 8:15 left in the first half.  Wilcox found the back of the net again for the Hawks with 3:28 left on the clock but Chowan still trailed 7-2 heading into halftime. 
 
Courtney Jones scored two goals within 30 seconds of each other at the 21:54 mark in the second half.  Meredith Jones and Courtney Jones both capitalized on two free position attempts to give Catawba an 11-3 lead.  Sierra Burston added a score for Chowan with 14:11 on the clock off Mackenzie Reid's assist. 
 
Ebony Mills added two goals for the Indians resulting in a 13-4 advantage for Catawba.  Reid and Wilcox scored for the Hawks but Catawba added three more scores to take home the 16-6 win. 
 
Meredith Jones and Mills led the effort for the Indians with five goals apiece in the win.  Kourtney Jones added three while Alyssa Corace, Kaleigh Reidy and Abby Moore added one score each. 
 
Wilcox led the Hawks with three goals while Reid and Burston added two and one respectively. 
 
The Hawks return to action on March 27th when they host Columbia College at 6:00pm in Garrison Stadium.
