Box Score RALEIGH, NC- The Chowan University softball team topped Johnson C. Smith University 12-2 on Saturday afternoon in CIAA crossover play. The Hawks improve to 9-19 overall and 8-0 in the league with the win while the Golden Bulls slip to 5-11 on the year and 1-1 in CIAA play after the loss.
Chowan scored five runs in the top of the second using an RBI's from
Courtney Diamond and
Chandler Bridges along with
Tori Cragan's three-run double to take an early lead. The Hawks plated six more runs in the third off three hits and one Golden Bull error to extend their advantage to 11-0.
Jordan Burland-Card knocked in a run for the Hawks in the fourth to make the score 12-0.
A wild pitch and RBI triple by Johnson C. Smith gave the Golden Bulls two runs in the fourth but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Courtney Groce pitched four innings in the 11-2 win. She surrendered three hits while striking out five Golden Bull batters.
Alora Lincoln closed out the last inning of the contest. Cragan,
Brook Bowen,
Courtney Diamond and Hipple each tallied two hits in the victory. Cragan and Hipple had four and two RBI respectively.
The Hawks will take the field again on Sunday in CIAA crossover games against Winston-Salem State and Livingstone. Game times are slated for 12:30pm and 3:00pm respectively.
