Battlers Make History with Win over Chowan

Box Score PHILIPPI, WV- The Chowan University women's lacrosse team suffered their third straight setback on Sunday afternoon with a 12-11 loss to Alderson Broaddus.  The Hawks slip to 2-4 on the season while the Battlers improve to 1-1 and earned their first win in program history. 
 
Mackenzie Reid led all players in the contest with six goals in the loss.  Charisse Wilcox added three while Adriea Herndon notched two goals to aid the effort. Five different players scored two goals apiece for Alderson Broaddus while two additional players added scores for the Battlers.  Haley Haggard made three saves in goal for Chowan.
 
Cynthia Rice opened the contest with a goal for the Battlers.  Chowan responded with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead.   With the score tied 3-3 at the 20:10 mark, the Hawks rattled off five straight goals to move ahead 8-3.  The Battlers added a score at the 3:22 mark but Chowan still enjoyed an 8-4 lead heading into halftime. 
 
Herndon scored an unassisted goal at the start of the second half before Alderson Broaddus responded with two scores of their own to cut the deficit to three (9-6).  Reid answered with a score at the 22:23 mark, putting Chowan ahead 10-6. 
 
Down but not out, the Battlers dug deep to net five goals, resulting in an 11-10 advantage with just 4:10 left in the game.  Wilcox used an unassisted goal less than one minute later to tie the game 11-11.  With just 1:37 on the clock, Tia Kline found the back of the net for Alderson Broaddus, allowing them to earn the 12-11 win and their first victory in program history.
 
Chowan returns to Murfreesboro when they host Converse College on March 9th.  First draw is slated for 1:00pm.
