Box Score SALEM, VA- The Chowan University softball team rounded out the weekend in Salem, VA with a 4-0 loss to #19Shippensburg University. The Hawks finished 1-4 in the tournament and now post a 4-19 mark on the season.
The ball game was knotted 0-0 until the top of the fifth when Briana Giovenco and Taylor Weisman hit RBI singles to give Shippensburg a 2-0 advantage. The Raiders plated two more runs in the sixth thanks to a two-run single by Hilary Lyons.
Alora Lincoln held the Raiders scoreless through four innings of play.
Lindsay Hewitt entered the contest in-relief and gave up two runs in 1.2 innings of work.
Demi Reynolds took the mound in-relief of Hewitt and surrendered two additional runs in the sixth. Hewitt was credited with the loss for Chowan.
Emily Estep earned the win for the Raiders. She collected 14 strikeouts in the win and held the Hawks hitless through seven innings of work. Estep allowed just three batters to reach base;
Brook Bowen and
Tori Cragan by walk and
Leigh Ward, who reached on an error.
The Hawks return to action on March 19
th and 20
th when they host Lincoln (PA) and Bowie State in CIAA doubleheader match-ups. First pitch on both days is slated for 3:00pm. Thursday's game against the Lady Bulldogs will be the Hawks' Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day.
