Hawks Shine on Senior Night

The Hawks celebrated Senior Night for Kara Davis (L), Jennifer Hamilton (C), and Janelle Murphy (R) on Wednesday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University women's basketball team picked up a critical CIAA Northern Division victory with a 52-47 win over The Lincoln University on Wednesday evening.  Chowan improves to 12-14 on the season and 6-9 in the league with the victory while the Lady Lions slip to 11-14 overall and 4-11 against CIAA competition.
 
Janelle Murphy and RyJae Anderson each scored a team-high nine points.  Alisha Mobley followed with eight points in the win and hauled in nine rebounds (four offensive, five defensive).  Chowan's bench players accounted for 33 of the team's points. 
 
The Lady Lions were paced by Cynthia Johnson who tallied 10 points in the loss.  Courtney Smith chipped in nine points in the effort. 
 
Chowan and Lincoln battled for control early in the first half.  With the score tied 14-14 and 8:48 left in the first half, a 7-4 run by the Lady Lions allowed Lincoln to take a 21-18 lead heading into halftime. 
 
The Hawks trailed through the majority of the second half.  The tide turned in favor of Chowan at the 3:07 mark when a lay-up by Mobley gave the Hawks a 47-46 lead, their first of the half.  From there, it was all about Chowan as they held on to the advantage and closed out the game with a 5-1 run to secure the 52-47 victory. 
 
Chowan heads to Richmond, VA on Saturday to take on Virginia Union in their final game of the regular season.  Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
