The Lincoln University Slips past Chowan

MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University men's basketball team came up short in a 60-58 loss to the visiting Lions of The Lincoln University on Wednesday evening.  The Hawks slip to 11-14 overall and 5-10 in the league with the loss while the Lions improve to 18-7 and 10-5 against CIAA competition.   Wednesday evening was Senior Night for the Hawks.  Chowan celebrated seniors Greg Alston and Ashante Ross along with Sapphire Tristin Jenkins prior to tip-off.
 
Kyree Bethel led all players in the game with 18 points while Mark Anthony Buright chipped in 16 points in the effort.  George Jackson led Lincoln with 16 points followed by Kyle Aiken with 10 points. 
 
The game was a tight battle from start to finish as the contest featured eight ties and 14 lead changes.  Lincoln lead 10-9 at the 14:32 mark but a three pointer by Buright switched the momentum over to the Hawks, giving them a 12-10 advantage.  Chowan maintained the advantage for the rest of the half aside from one lead change with 7:48 on the clock. 
 
Leading 32-31 at the start of the second half, the Hawks handed the lead back to the Lions at the 8:13 mark after a three pointer by Jackson.  Chowan trailed 59-58 with 1:35 on the clock and a made free throw by the Lions put The Lincoln University ahead 60-58 with 14 seconds on the clock. 
 
Butler-Poole nearly drained a buzzer-beater three pointer for the win, but the attempt was unsuccessful and the Lions walked away with the 60-58 win.  Chowan hits the road on Saturday for their final game of the regular season.  Tip-off against Virginia Union is slated for 7:30pm.
