Box Score BELMONT, NC- The Chowan University men's basketball team defeated Belmont Abbey College in commanding fashion on Saturday evening with a 71-45 victory. The Hawks improve to 5-2 on the season with the win while the Crusaders slide to 0-8 after the setback.
Chowan shot 52% from the floor in the contest while holding Belmont Abbey to a 30% success rate.
Four players scored double-digit points for the Hawks in the win.
Hank Edmonds led the effort with 13 points while
Kyree Bethel and
Jalen Marshall tallied 12 points apiece.
Kortez Smith added 11 points in the win while
Dauson Womack hauled in 13 rebounds (five offensive, eight defensive).
Nick Hough led the effort for the Crusaders with 11 points while Deion Lane chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds (one offensive, six defensive) in the setback.
Chowan took control right from the start with an early 8-2 lead. Belmont Abbey worked back from the deficit and knotted the score 12-12 with 11:53 on the clock in the first half. The Hawks held a narrow advantage for the majority of the first half until a three-pointer by Bethel at the 5:44 mark gave Chowan a convincing ten point lead (28-18). Chowan took a commanding 40-25 advantage heading into halftime.
The Hawks maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest. They secured the 71-45 win with a layup by
Tiron Brown.
Chowan returns to action on December 16
th when they host College of Faith at 7:30pm.
