Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC- The Chowan University men's basketball team fell to the University of Mount Olive on Saturday evening in nonconference action.  With the 70-59 loss the Hawks move to 6-3 on the year while the Trojans continue their historic season with an 11-1 record. 

Kyree Bethel and Hank Edmonds both scored 14 points in the setback for Chowan.  Bethel and Josh Mellette each grabbed eight rebounds in the contest while Tiron Brown dished out seven assists.

Dominique Reed led all players in the game with 21 points with Mike Moore and Kendall Hargrove added 16 and 13 points, respectively.  Hargrove also hauled in 12 rebounds to aid the effort.

Mount Olive scored first in the contest with a layup by Hargrove.  Jalen Marshall answered with a basket for the Hawks.  Trailing 4-2, Edmonds' three-pointer at the 18:24 mark gave Chowan a narrow advantage but it would be the only lead of the half, and of the game, for the Blue and White.  The Trojans pulled away by as many as 17 points in the first half (39-22) before heading into halftime with a comfortable 39-24 advantage.

The Hawks trailed by double-digit points through the early part of the second half, but Bethel's three-pointer with 12:36 left in the game put the Hawks within striking distance (47-44) and closed out a 16-2 run for Chowan. The run was not quite enough as the Trojans answered back to pull away by ten points (61-51) with 5:31 remaining in the contest.
Another three-pointer by Bethel at the 3:18 mark cut the deficit to five points (61-56) for the Hawks but the late surge was not enough as Mount Olive pulled away with the 70-59 win. 

Chowan returns to action at the start of the New Year when they host Fayetteville State University.  The CIAA contest is slated to tip-off at 7:30pm on January 1^st in the Helms Center.
