Hawks Outlast Lady Lions

Alisha Mobley had 19 points in Wednesday's win over Lincoln (PA).
Box Score LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University women's basketball team topped the Lady Lions of Lincoln University (PA) 71-65 on Wednesday evening in a CIAA Northern Division victory.  The Hawks improve to 10-9 overall after the win and move to 4-5 in the league.  The Lady Lions slip to 11-9 overall and 4-6 against CIAA competition with the loss. 
 
Alisha Mobley led all players in the game with 19 points for the Blue and White while Courtni Williams and Summer Curtis chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively.  Curtis and Rachel Gostomski each hauled in six rebounds in the victory.  The Hawks shot 50% from the floor on Wednesday evening to secure the win.
 
Amani Clark led the effort for Lincoln (PA) by draining 14 points in the loss.  Cynthia Johnson followed with 13 points while Zephrah Pam added 12 points.  Pam also grabbed 13 rebounds (eight offensive, five defensive) for the Lady Lions.
 
Chowan trailed almost the entire first half until Williams' layup with 3:43 remaining in the half gave the Hawks a narrow 24-23 lead.  The Lady Lions tied the score using a free throw by Clark, but Chowan outscored Lincoln (PA) 6-4 in the final three minutes to take a 30-28 advantage heading into halftime. 
 
The second half was all about the Hawks as Chowan surrendered the lead just once in the remainder of the game.  A jumper by Mobley with 13:08 left in the contest gave the Hawks a 35-44 lead, their largest of the game.  The Lady Lions fought back to pull within one points (51-50) at the 6:38 mark after a free throw by Mienana Gaines, and eventually took a 55-53 lead with 4:22 remaining in the contest. 
 
Mobley's two made free throws returned the lead (57-55) to the Hawks at the 4:03 mark.  Chowan stayed in control for remainder of the contest to secure the 71-65 win. 
 
The Hawks return to the Helms Center on Saturday afternoon when they host Virginia Union University in another CIAA Northern Division match-up.  Tip-off is slated for 2:00pm.
