Box Score LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University men's basketball team dropped their second straight game on Wednesday evening in a 69-47 loss to Lincoln (PA). The Hawks slip to 6-11 overall and 2-7 in CIAA play with the loss while the Lions improve to 14-5 and 6-4 in the league after the victory.
Justin Jackson and James Stewart each grabbed 15 points in the win for Lincoln (PA) while George Jackson added 12 points of his own. Timothy McKenzie tallied nine rebounds (three offensive, six defensive).
Phoenix Butler-Poole led the Hawks with 11 points while
Kortez Smith chipped in 10 points. Butler-Poole and
Ashante Ross both grabbed eight rebounds for the Blue and White.
Lincoln (PA) jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the contest. The Hawks used a layup by Butler-Poole followed by a three-pointer by Smith to tie the score at the 17:48 mark. Smith followed with a jumper to give Chowan their first lead of the half. Both teams exchanged baskets as the minutes ticked away.
Warren Powers' free throw with 11:22 before halftime put the Hawks ahead 15-14. The Lions responded with a 10-0 run to make the score 24-15 at the 7:08 mark before closing out the half with a 31-24 advantage.
The Hawks struggled to overcome the deficit in the second half, and trailed by 12 points (39-27) five minutes into the second half. The Lions maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game and easily obtained the 69-47 win.
Chowan returns to the Helms Center on Saturday when they host Virginia Union University. The CIAA Northern Division contest is slated to tip-off at 4:00pm.
