Hawks Hang on for Win over Blue Bears

Ashante Ross had 30 points for the Hawks on Monday.
Box Score MURFREEBSORO, NC- The Chowan University men's basketball team earned a hard fought 93-90 CIAA crossover win against Livingstone College on Monday evening.  The victory moves the Hawks to 5-8 on the season and 2-4 in the league while the Blue Bears slip to 10-5 and 4-2 in the CIAA.
 
Ashante Ross scored a team-high 30 points in the win.  Warren Powers added 16 points while Kyree Bethel and Tiron Brown added 14 and 12 points respectively.  Kortez Smith also scored double-digit points after an 11-point outing on Monday. 
 
Jody Hill led all players in the game with 37 points.  Mark Thomas added 18 points to help the cause.  Hill opened the contest by draining seven three-pointers in the first eight minutes of play, leaving the Hawks trailing 23-13 with 13:27 remaining before halftime.  Chowan battled to pull within two points (26-24) at the second media time out and trailed by one point (43-42) heading into halftime. 
 
The Hawks maintained the lead for the entire second half.  The Blue Bears never trailed by more than eight points and came within three points (91-88) with 20 seconds remaining in the contest.  Chowan held on to close out the game with the 93-90 victory. 
 
The Hawks hit the road on Saturday to take on CIAA Northern Division foe Elizabeth City State on Saturday evening.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm.
