Cardinals Cruise Past Hawks

Canesha Bradford scored the Hawks' first goal of the season on Sunday afternoon.
Box Score WHEELING, WV- The Chowan University women's soccer team fell to 0-3 on the season on Sunday afternoon.  In their second contest in as many days, the Hawks dropped an 8-1 decision at the hands of the Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals in Wheeling, WV.

Aliya Kureishy scored first in the contest for the Cardinals off an assist from Caroline Gacka in the 23rd minute of play.  Olivia Vanhoose gave Wheeling Jesuit an early 2-0 lead when she found the back of the net in the 38th minute after assists from Brittany DeCapio and Aubrey Hutchinson.  The Hawks kept the Cardinals in check until Hutchinson and Caitlin Tomczyk each scored unassisted goals within one minute of each other just before halftime. 
 
Leading 4-0, Wheeling Jesuit Hutchinson tacked on a fifth goal for the Cardinals, her second of the contest seven minutes into the second half.  The Cardinals continued to hang on to the momentum throughout the second half.  Jessie Vilkofsky found the back of the net in the 55th with an unassisted goal, and scored again two minutes later off Melinda Earnest's assist. 
 
Canesha Bradford ended the Hawks' three game scoring drought in the 63rd  minute of the contest when she scored off of Kylie McGrath's assist to make the score 7-1.  Wheeling Jesuit tacked on an additional score in the 70th minute with an unassisted goal from Maria Tennant. 
 
The Cardinals improve to 1-1 on the young season after Saturday's victory.  They will take the field again on September 13th when they host Ohio Dominican at 4:00pm.  Chowan concludes their three game road trip on September 12th against William Peace University.  Game time is set for 6:00pm.
