SALISBURY, NC- The Chowan University women's cross country team finished in fifth place at the Catawba College Invitational on Friday evening.
Jomecka Deloatch led the way for the Hawks, finishing with a time of 20:24, good for a 12
th place overall finish among the 40 runner field.
Gerlisa Shipman was close on her heels with a 14
th place finish and time of 20:41.
Tristin Jenkins finished in third place for the Hawks. In her first meet with the team, Jenkins earned 34
th place overall finish with a time of 25:20.
Shanequa Blow and
Taylor McElroy trekked the course in 27:23 and 28:09 respectively, resulting in a 36
th and 37
th overall finish.
Winston-Salem State took home first place in the season-opening meet with a team score of 34 points. Salem College, with 53 points, earned the runner-up spot with the host team, Catawba snagging third place as a team. Coker finished in fourth place. The Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College started off their season with a sixth place finish.
The Hawks will hit the road again next Friday as they travel to Wilson, NC to take on Barton College at 6:00pm.
