PETERSBURG, VA- The Chowan University women's cross country team took home a second place finish on Friday afternoon at the Virginia State University Invitational. The Hawks had three of their five scoring runners finish in the top ten.
Jomecka Deloatch finished in sixth place overall in a field of 32 runners with a time of 21:22.
Gerlisa Shipman was close behind, crossing the line at the 21:40 mark, good for an eighth place finish.
Crystal Louramore rounded out the top ten with a time of 21:57 and tenth place overall finish.
Freshman
Ashley Tackett finished in 12
th place overall, and fourth for the Hawks at the 22:20 mark.
Tristin Jenkins rounded out the scoring for Chowan with a time of 24:59 and 17
th place finish.
Shanequa Blow and
Taylor McElroy competed in the meet and finished in 20
th and 22
nd place respectively with times of 26:26 and 28:05.
The host Lady Trojans won the meet with a team score of 26. Taylor-Ashley Bean earned individual honors after trekking in the course in 19:58.
The Hawks travel to Cary, NC next Saturday to compete in the HBCU Classic. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:05am.
