NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Chowan University women's cross country team competed in the Settler's Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University on Saturday morning. The Hawks finished in third place overall behind Division III perennial powerhouses Christopher Newport and Mary Washington. Methodist finished in fourth place.
Jomecka Deloatch crossed the finish line first for the Hawks and in 15
th place in the 27 runner field with a time of 22:37.
Crystal Louramore finished just behind Deloatch at the 23:03 mark and in 16
th place.
In her first meet with the Hawks,
Ashley Tackett placed in the 18
th spot overall after trekking the 5k course in 25:20.
Gerlisa Shipman and
Tristin Jenkins rounded out the scoring for the Hawks with times of 26:50 and 27:28 respectively.
Shanequa Blow and
Taylor McElroy competed in the meet, and crossed the line at the 29:47 and 31:09 mark. The host Captains took on the team title after edging Mary Washington 29-26 in the team scoring. Both teams had all five of their scoring runners finish in the top ten.
Chowan will hit the trail again next Friday when they travel to Petersburg, VA to compete in the Virginia State University Invitational. Start time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
