Converse Nets 4-1 Victory over Hawks

Erica Jefferson scored the lone goal for the Hawks on Saturday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University women's soccer team suffered a 4-1 setback at the hands of Converse College on Sunday afternoon.  The loss drops the Hawks to 0-4 on the season. 
 
The Hawks kept the Valkyries at-bay until the 25th minute of the contest.  Emily Taylor used Mariah Ellitot's rebound to score and give Converse an early 1-0 edge.  Six minutes later, Georgia Jones' assist allowed Joy Keith to score into the near post.  Converse maintained the 2-0 lead through the remainder of the first half. 
 
Olivia Grose added a third score for the Valkyries as she netted an unassisted goal into the upper corner of the near post in the 52nd minute of play.  Erica Jefferson put the Hawks on the board in the 59th minute of play as took advantage of an open field to drill the ball into the top half of the goal. 
 
With the score 3-1, the Valkyries added a final score in the 86th minute.  Emily Taylor's cross kick allowed Darby Boyd to find the back of the net as she sent the ball into the far post. 
 
Converse College improves to 4-2 after Saturday's victory, while the Hawks remain winless on the year.  Chowan will take the field again on September 19th in a 3:30pm contest against Limestone.
