Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, NC-  The Chowan University Baseball team took two from Elizabeth City State University by scores of 6-0 and 5-3 on Saturday afternoon in a CIAA conference double-header.  Chowan improves to 6-12 on the season and 2-0 in the CIAA.  ECSU falls to 3-4 and 0-2 on the season.

Ryan Moore garnered his third win of the season pitching a complete game shut-out.  Moore threw seven innings scattering two lone hits and punching out five. Carter Siweck picked up his first win of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings of relief for the starter George Mazza.

Chowan jumped on the Vikings early in game one plating two runs in the second inning thanks to three hit-by-pitches and a walk.  The Hawks started the rally when Justin Shockley was hit-by-pitch.  Brandon Mack followed that up with a line drive to left field.  Blake Leebrick would fill the bases by getting plunked.  Josh Catalano would draw a walk to bring in Shockley for the first run of the game.  Colby Wiggins would also get hit in the inning to plate Mack for an early 2-0 lead.

Moore did not allow a base hit until the fourth inning off a blooper to right field by Johnny Pitt.  Derick Harvey would drop down a bunt single in the sixth inning for the team's second hit of the contest.  Moore would keep the ball in the infield for most of the game producing nine groundouts.  Moore would only allow six Vikings to reach base on two hits, errors and fielder's choice respectively.

Chowan would pad their lead to 3-0 in the third inning with a long ball from Drew Mason his third of the season.  The Hawks would post three more in the fourth inning.  William Ward would draw a walk to start the frame followed by a base hit to right field by Wiggins scoring Ward from first.  Wiggins would advance to second on the throw to the plate and later score on Tyler Burden's RBI single up the middle.  Burden would swipe second and third base and later score on a wild pitch taking the score to 6-0 where the score would remain.

ECSU's Cameron Cecil would pick up the loss dropping him to 1-2 on the season.  Cecil and Michael Duck would pitch three innings giving up three runs and two walks each.
The nightcap started just like game one with the Hawks scoring first.  Catalano singled up the middle to start off the game.  Wiggins with a sacrifice bunt pushed Catalano to second.  Ryan Moore tripled to score Catalano for an early 1-0 lead.

Mazza would run into some trouble in the third inning allowing an unearned run to score.  Two errors in the inning and a run-down plated Lee Person to score from third.
Mazza would run into a jam in the sixth with the score tied at 1-1.  Robert Jacot's base hit, a walk by Tony Wiggins and a bunt single by Zac Vasko would spell the end for Mazza.  Carter Siweck would relieve Mazza throwing 1 2/3 innings allowing two hits and giving up one run.  ECSU's Corey Williams would single on a squeeze bunt to take the lead late 2-1.  Siweck would cut down Vasko at the plate trying to score on the pitch.

ECSU's starter Robert Krehel pitched a no-decision holding the Hawks to one run off three hits throwing five complete innings.  Ricardo Harvey picked up the loss dropping him to 0-1 on the season pitching one inning giving up four runs off two hits and three walks.

Chowan would retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a two out rally.  Tyler Burden doubled to right field scoring Moore from second reaching on a fielder's choice.  Drew Mason would score on a passed ball reaching on a walk earlier in the inning to take the lead 3-2.  Burden would advance to third on the pitch.  Evan Holton would draw a walk before a clutch two out single by Justin Shockley would plate Burden and Holton for a 5-2 lead.

ECSU would plate a run in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 5-3 but the deficit was too large to overcome.  Siweck picked up his first win of the season.

Tyler Burden extended his hitting streak to eleven games on a base hit up the middle in game one and a blooper into right field in the night cap.  Burden had four stolen bases in the contest.  He finished the day at the plate going 3-7 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
