Hawks Cruise Past Lady Bulldogs

Nikira Fults had a team-high eight kills in Sunday's win over Bowie State.
Box Score BOWIE, MD- The Chowan University volleyball team returned to their winning ways on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University.  The Hawks improve to 11-3 overall and 11-1 in the league after the CIAA Northern Division victory.  Bowie State falls to 2-19 and 1-12 in CIAA play after Sunday's loss. 
 
Nikira Fults led the Hawks' effort with eight kills in the win, followed by Suraya Chase with six kills.  Kelsely Schlake collected 23 assists while Cindy Ehrich notched seven digs.  Brelyn Finey collected a team-high five kills for Bowie State and Briana Flowers has eight assists in the loss.
 
Chowan and Bowie State battled early in the first set to maintain control.  With the score tied 4-4, the Hawk took advantage of four Lady Bulldog errors and kill by Chase to pull ahead 9-4.  Chowan later used a 9-1 run to gain a 23-11 advantage before a Lady Bulldog serving error and Schlake's service ace confirmed the 25-11 victory in set one.   
 
The Hawks scored in bunches in the second set.  After trailing 4-2, Chowan took advantage of a kill by Chase and Lady Bulldog miscues to pull ahead 7-4.  From that point forward, the Hawks held on to the momentum and maintained the lead for the remainder of the set.    The Lady Bulldogs used a 5-0 run near the end of the set to pull within three points of the Hawks, but a 5-0 run by Chowan capped by a kill from Allison Smith secured the 25-17 set win. 
 
Chowan made quick work of Bowie State in the third set and allowed a mere nine points in the set win.  The Hawks scored 16 of their 25 points off Lady Bulldogs errors en-route to the 25-9 set victory. 
 
Chowan continues their three-match road series on October 14th when they take on Lincoln (PA).  The CIAA Northern Division match-up is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.
