Hipple Shines as Hawks Roll by Virginia Union

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University softball team pounded out 25 hits over two games on Friday afternoon to power them by Virginia Union University in a CIAA North Division doubleheader. Chowan won with final game scores of 12-1 and 11-3. Sophomore Liz Hipple was 7-8  at the plate with seven RBI, two triples, and a double. 

The Hawks improved their record to 19-24 overall and 10-2 in CIAA play while the Lady Panthers fall to 5-22 overall and 2-10 in the CIAA. 

The Hawks collected 15 hits in the 12-1 win. Hipple was one of five Chowan batters who garnered multiple hits in the 11 run win. She drove in four RBI on two triples and scored two runs after a 3-4 plate performance. Megan Wade and Leigh Ward were perfect at the plate. Wade was 2-2 with two runs driven in and Ward finished up 3-3 with two RBI. 

Alora Lincoln picked up her 10th win of the season on the mound. She threw five innings, gave up one run and struck out four Lady Panther batters. 

The Hawks rolled to a 11-3 second game win with Hipple going 4-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Amber Matthews slammed her seventh homerun of the season and ended the day with a 3-4 plate performance. Lincoln went for her 11th win on the mound. She threw another five innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. 

The Hawks will take off for the rest of the week and return to the field next Saturday and Sunday, April 13th and 14th, to host Lincoln University (PA) and Bowie State University.
