CU Softball Battles with Coker for Doubleheader Split

Box Score HARTSVILLE, SC - After dropping the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with Coker College 8-0, Chowan rallied for a 9-7 win over the Cobras to gain a doubleheader nonconference split. The Hawks improve to 17-24 after today's doubleheader. Megan Wade showed up in a big way in the nightcap win after she slammed a three run double and a solo homerun.

Coker held the Hawks scoreless in the first game and used a four-run third inning to get on top. The Hawks collected nine hits in the game but couldn't put a runner across the plate. Lacey Wildeboer, Alex Allen, and Megan Bass went 2-2 in the game. Alora Lincoln picked up the loss on the mound after 4.1 innings pitched. She gave up 10 hits and six earned runs.

After being held without a run in game one, the Hawks didn't back down in the second game and came out on top in a back and forth game.

Allie Kolezynski pitched the win. She scattered seven hits and gave up three earned runs in the game for her 8th win of the year. Chowan opened the game with a four run first inning. Wade slammed a bases loaded double to help give her team an early 4-0 lead. Coker bounced back with an explosive first at-bat. The Cobras scored five runs to take a one run lead.

Trailing 5-4 in the 4th inning, Wade stepped to the plate to open the inning with a solo shot for a 5-5 tie. Once again Coker answered in their next at-bat with a solo homerun to take their second lead of the game at 6-5.

Chowan capitalized on a four run 6th inning to finally silence the Cobra's attack. The inning was highlighted by a Liz Hipple two run single. The Cobras scored a lone run in their final at-bat but it would not be enough. Chowan held on for the win, their 17th of the season.

Wade finished up 2-4 with four RBI.

Chowan's doubleheader at Wingate University has been cancelled due to forecasted weather. They will take off from competition until Friday, April 6th when the Lady Panthers from Virginia Union come to town for a 2:00pm CIAA doubleheader.
