CU Softball Splits Play with Pace University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University softball team moved to 10-16 on the year after splitting a doubleheader with Pace University this afternoon. In a tough contest the Hawks dropped a 3-2 first game decision but bounced back to take a 3-1 second game win. The Hawks collected 11 hits over the two games. Freshman pitched Alora Lincoln showed some solid pitching skills to help propel the Hawks to the second game win. 

Chowan fell 3-2 in the first game. Chowan jumped out to an early 1-0 after their first at-bat but Pace answered in their second at-bat to knot the game at 1-1. Pace put up two runs in the top of the 4th inning to keep Chowan at bay. The Hawks put up another run in the bottom of the 5th to the cut the Pace lead to 3-2. Pace's pitching held on to their narrow lead to get the 3-2 win. 

CU's Leigh Ward put up two hits for the Hawks and Allie Kolezynski went 1-3 with an RBI in the loss. Kolezynski pitched 3.1 innings for the loss. Lincoln came in to close the game out. 

Lincoln went on to pitch a solid second game. She gave up seven hits, one run, and struck out two for her sixth win of the season. Amber Matthews had a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth to give CU enough runs for the win. 

The Hawks will travel to Salem, Virginia this weekend for the WVIAC Challenge.
