CU Splits Day Two Play at CIAA Softball Round Up

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RALEIGH, NC - The Chowan University softball team split play for the second day in a row at the 2012 CIAA Softball Round Up at Walnut Creek in Raleigh today. Chowan opened the day with an 18-10 win over Johnson C. Smith but fell to Fayetteville State University in their last game of the day. Chowan moves to 7-15 overall and 4-2 in the CIAA after today's games. They will wrap up play at the tournament tomorrow with Livingstone and Shaw. 

Chowan used 22 hits and had six players with a multiple game to help get the win.  Freshman catcher Jordan Peay paced Chowan with a 4-5 outing at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Megan Wade , Alex Allen , and Lacey Wildeboer each had three hits in the game while Liz Hipple and Megan Bass had two hits each. 

Allie Kolezynski picked up her 4th in on the mound after tossing 3.1 innings. She gave up eight hits and struck out two in the her time on the mound. Alora Lincoln pitched 3.2 innings for the save. She no hit the Lady Golden Bulls and struck out five to close out the game. 

The Hawks committed four errors with runners in scoring position that eventually led to their 7-2 loss to Fayettevile State University. The two teams kept one another at bay through three and a half innings before the Lady Broncos struck first. They scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to get ahead. They added five runs in their next at-bat to get ahead 7-0. Chowan finally put runs on the board in their final at-bat but their comeback attempt was stopped short and they fell 7-2. 

Both teams collected six hits in the game. Kolezynski was 3-4 with an RBI and Alex Allen was 2-4 with an RBI. Lincoln pitched the loss. She gave up six hits and one earned run and struck out three in the game. 

The Hawks (7-15, 4-2) will wrap up Round Up play on Sunday with Livingstone at 11:00am and Shaw at 3:00pm.
