LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Over the first 12:51 of the game, Chowan made just three of 21 attempted field goals, and found themselves down 22-9. The final 27 minutes of the contest were a completely different story, though, as the Hawks defeated CIAA North foe Lincoln University (PA) 58-55 on Thursday.
After being down 22-9, Chowan (9-14, 4-9 CIAA, 2-5 North) went on an 11-0 run to pull within two points with 2:47 remaining in the first half. During that stretch, the Hawks connected on four of eight field goal attempts. Chowan eventually took the lead early in the second half following a
Danielle Coleman layup, and never looked back.
Ransheda Jennings went 9-11 at the free throw line, leading to a game-high 15 points.

Talaya Lynch, and
Janelle Murphy added nine points apiece. Lynch and
Summer Curtis notched team-highs with eight rebounds. Curtis added to her Chowan single-season record by blocking three shots, bringing her season total to 66.
Denyse Moore had a solid all-around game for the Lady Lions (7-18, 3-10 CIAA, 3-4 North). She scored 12 points and tallied nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks – all team-highs. Moore was perfect at the free throw line, going 6-6. Tahlar McIntosh also recorded 12 points for Lincoln.
After the Hawks took their first lead, at the 18:13 mark of the second half, they continued on a 13-2 run to take a 33-26 advantage. The Lady Lions kept the game close, never trailing by more than nine points, and crawled back within four points with 5:21 remaining in the game.
An and-one by Lincoln's Cynthia Johnson brought the score to 54-53 in favor of Chowan with just over two minutes to play. Johnson finished with eight points and six rebounds. Chowan's defense held strong down the stretch, not allowing a field goal for the remainder of the game.
Chowan forced 22 Lincoln turnovers, leading to 17 points. The Hawks committed just 15 turnovers. Lincoln held a huge advantage in bench points, 30-10.
Chowan will finish their road swing on Saturday, February 11
th, at rival Elizabeth City State University. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
